Community Health Needs Assessment

Announcing Acadia Hospital Foundation’s Ralph and Anita Leonard Society!

Established in 2012, Acadia Hospital Foundation’s planned giving society honors Ralph and Anita Leonard for their visionary support of Acadia Hospital. As high school sweethearts and lifetime residents of Old Town, Maine, Ralph and Anita Leonard knew that having hope makes dreams possible. More than twenty years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard worked together to provide an unmet community need and created the first endowment to benefit a freestanding acute care psychiatric and mental health hospital for the people of our region. Acadia Hospital opened its doors in 1992, and has fostered hope and dignity for tens of thousands of children, adolescents and adults through the provision of quality psychiatric, mental health, and chemical dependency services.

“People with mental health challenges need to have a solid support system close to home to aide their recovery and we didn’t have this before Acadia Hospital,” says Ralph. “Over the years, Anita and I have given to Acadia Hospital because we see so much good coming from it.”

The Ralph and Anita Leonard Society honors those who have named Acadia Hospital Foundation as a beneficiary of an estate gift or who may have donated through a planned gift vehicle. The society recognizes endowments, bequests, trusts, charitable gift annuities, and other planned giving instruments. Members of the Ralph and Anita Leonard Society receive such benefits as recognition on a donor wall at Acadia Hospital, an annual luncheon, the opportunity to meet other society members, and inclusion in the G. Peirce Webber Society, the planned giving society of EMHS Foundation. Society membership demonstrates a personal belief in creating a legacy and ensuring the stability of Acadia Hospital for the future.
