A Day of Miracles for Maine Kids
EMHS Charities CMNH Telethon Celebrates 25 Years
For 25 years, EMHS Charities Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) has supported healthcare for the children of central, eastern, and northern Maine. Since 1988, the annual telethon has introduced some of these children and their families, and thanked the thousands of individuals and corporations who have donated time and money to ensure that the children of our region have the care they need, when they need it. The 2012 telethon followed the twenty-year tradition, raising nearly $534,486 at the live broadcast by WABI-TV5 from Bangor Mall on Saturday, June 2.
2012 State of Maine Champion Child, Kylie Pelletier of Frenchville, and her family were introduced during the event. Kylie’s mother, Sherrie Pelletier that before her daughter, was diagnosed with leukemia, she had no idea how much EMHS Charities CMNH supported local hospitals, "Thank goodness EMMC’s Pediatric Oncology department was there to treat Kylie and help her get strong and healthy," she remarked, noting the relationship that EMHS Charities CMNH has with EMHS member hospitals.
"Our miracle families are the face of EMHS Charities Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, and it is because of them and the support of our donors that our EMHS healthcare providers are able to help thousands of Maine children every year," said Josh Scroggins, director of EMHS Charities CMNH. "We want to make sure the last thing a parent ever has to think about when their child is sick or injured is where he or she is going to receive care."
"Our twenty-fifth year of telethon is our best with great leadership from director Josh Scroggins and a team of dedicated volunteers make it happen. Our EMHS Charities CMNH program has been recognized nationally this year; we are second in corporate fundraising for markets with populations of less than one million, and fourth overall," said Michael Crowley, Healthcare Charities president and chief philanthropy officer. "This is another indication of the strong network of individuals, businesses and other organizations that choose to make children’s hospital care and wellness their charity of choice. Improving access to quality pediatric healthcare in the northern nine counties in Maine is our top priority and donors to our Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals telethon and those who support events throughout the year make that possible."
