Acadia Hospital Partners with NESCom Students to Design Film Poster
Bangor, ME –For over a year The Acadia Hospital has been working with partner Project AWARE and area teens to produce a high quality dramatic short film about teen depression and anxiety entitled, The Road Back.
With the public premiere scheduled for March 21, 7:00 PM at Gracie Theatre on the Husson University campus, a professional poster promoting the event was needed. Acadia Hospital’s Communications Officer Alan Comeau knew just where to turn. “We had worked with students from the New England School of Communications before, and the result was two high quality brochures, so when it was time to produce a poster for our film, I immediately thought of them, and once again the students came through.”
The school’s Design II class, taught by professional graphic artist Theresa Ayotte, heard a presentation about the film and had a chance to ask questions of their prospective client. The end result had four students offering a total of six different poster designs. NESCom Junior Kiera Plante’s design was chosen to help promote the film. Plante will also be designing the DVD package and label.
“I was honored to be chosen to be a part of this project,” said Plante. “In addition to it being an awesome learning experience, it's great to be involved with something that's been so intertwined with other young people in the area and is so positive.”
The entire film project has been driven by area youth, so engaging NESCom students fit in perfectly with the overall focus to get as many young people involved as possible.
“Involving the graphic design students at NESCom in creating the DVD cover and promotional poster for The Road Back
shows how much Acadia Hospital generously supports providing learning opportunities for local young people,” commented Ayotte. “Experiential learning about the process from obtaining client materials to receiving client feedback brings a practical understanding that cannot be taught in the classroom.”
The Acadia Hospital and Project AWARE encourage teens, parents, teachers, anyone who works with adolescents and all other interested community members to attend the free premiere. Go to www.acadiatheroadback.org
