Acadia Hospital to Host 20th Anniversary Celebration

Posted: 09/26/2012

Bangor, ME –The Acadia Hospital invites the public to celebrate its 20 years of empowering people to improve their lives at a special community reception and sculpture unveiling on Thursday, October 11.

The reception will begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by the sculpture unveiling and Kagan Family dedication on the Acadia Hospital campus.

“Acadia opened twenty years ago with the purpose of providing high quality mental health and substance abuse treatment services to the people of Maine,” commented Acadia President and CEO Daniel B. Coffey. “We have grown into a nationally recognized psychiatric hospital and look forward to celebrating our 20th anniversary with the community.”

The hospital’s sculpture was designed and created by sculptor Andreas Von Huene. As a field engineer overseas he became accustomed to large industrial projects while familiarizing himself with the art forms of exotic cultures. Von Huene's studio explorations reflect his respect for subject, playfulness with material, and delight in detail.

The Schoodic International Sculpture Symposium follows the path set by the first sculpture symposium of the modern era, which was held in Austria in 1959. Since then, sculptors have been gathering at various places around the world to practice their art and to learn from each other and from the symposium setting. The finished work then becomes a new and permanent part of the community’s landscape.

Acadia Hospital is a fully accredited and licensed non-profit psychiatric hospital whose mission it is to empower people to improve their lives.
