Bangor, Me—Acadia recently received recognition for excellence regarding the film, The Road Back, and its involvement in National Depression Screening Day.

A short feature film on adolescent anxiety and depression, The Road Back, produced by Acadia Hospital in conjunction with Project AWARE and Maine teens, was chosen by Healthline.com as one of the ten best depression videos of 2013. The movie, written and directed by Hermon High School Senior Faith Bishop, also won honors for Best Student Film at the Iowa Independent Film Festival.

For the second year in a row Acadia was acknowledged by Screening for Mental Health, Inc. as a Top 10 Online Screening Site for National Depression Screening Day, which is held every October. The online tool is confidential and free to use and can help an individual gauge whether or not professional help should be sought for a mental health issue.

“Community education and outreach is a cornerstone of our mission to empower people to improve their lives, and I’m pleased that our efforts are being noticed and making an impact for individuals struggling with a mental health issue,” commented Acadia President and CEO Daniel B. Coffey. “I think we have become known for leveraging technology and social media as a means to reach a wide audience, as is evidenced by the 34,500 people who have viewed The Road Back on our YouTube channel for example.”
