Wayne Steller Named Acadia Hospital Vice President & Chief Nursing Officer

Bangor, ME – Wayne Steller, PMHNP-BC has been named vice president and chief nursing officer for Acadia Hospital effective September 18, 2013. He has served as interim chief nursing officer since June 16, 2013. In addition to his executive duties, Steller, a highly trained psychiatric nurse practitioner, will periodically continue to provide direct patient care services.

“We are extremely fortunate to have such a strong internal candidate for this important position,” commented Daniel B. Coffey, Acadia president and CEO. “Wayne has been at Acadia since it opened in 1992 and he has earned the appreciation of his patients and respect of his peers; he is an outstanding leader and has been doing a terrific job as interim CNO over the past three months.”

Steller obtained his bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Maine in 1988 and completed a master of science in nursing at Husson University in 2007. He is a board certified adult psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMH-NP) with thirty three years of experience including twenty one years at Acadia Hospital in positions of increasing responsibility. Steller is a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and has been a frequent speaker and presenter on a variety of mental health issues.

Steller served in the United States Navy from 1976 – 1980 and the United States Army Reserve from 1980 – 1982. He lives in Hermon with his wife, Laura, and two dogs, Sid and Morgan.
