Posted: 10/01/2015

BELFAST, Me -- Acadia Healthcare Family Behavioral Health Services is pleased to share that two key professionals are focusing their talents on increasing access to medication management services in Knox and Waldo Counties for children, adolescents and adults. Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners Kathy Dishner, PMHNP-BC and Layla Billings, PMHNP-BC are taking new patients, with Layla working out of both the Belfast and Rockland offices, and Kathy seeing patients in the Rockland office only.

Kathy Dishner:
Kathy is originally from Rhode Island, but moved to Maine in 1975 after graduating from the University of Rhode Island to begin her nursing career. She worked at Pen Bay Medical Center with various specialties including Medical Surgical, Emergency Medicine, Education, and Obstetrics and Delivery. In 2001 she earned her Master’s Degree from Husson College with a clinical specialty in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and was one of the first advanced practice nurses in Maine to complete a Post Masters Certificate to become a Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. She has been serving families and children ever since with wonderful organizations such as Acadia Hospital, Connecticut’s Natchaug Hospital, and Harbor Family Services. Kathy assisted in creating outpatient service offerings for Acadia Healthcare in 2014 via the clinic in Rockland.

Layla Billings:
Originally from rural Maine, Layla has also lived in California and Alaska. Her career has taken some interesting turns and includes time in the fishing industry in Alaska and as an editor for a poetry publication. In 2012 Layla earned her Master’s in Nursing with clinical specialty in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from the University of Southern Maine and is board certified as Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Layla will be assisting in the expansion of medication management services to Waldo County and will continue to see patients in Knox County as well.
