Eagle Feather Award Recognizes Socially, Environmentally Responsible Maine Organizations
The Acadia Hospital has been named the 2005 winner of the Eagle Feather Award for a non-profit business by Maine Businesses for Social Responsibility (MEBSR). The award was presented to Acadia CEO/CNO Dorothy Hill, RNC at MEBSR's annual meeting held in Belfast on October 27.
The Eagle Feather Award, established in 1994, highlights Maine businesses that are examples of what MEBSR refers to as the "triple bottom line," which is the integration of social, environmental, and economic considerations that make up the healthy bottom line of a sustainable business. Past winners in the non-profit category have included Faithworks (2004), Audubon Expedition Institute (2002), and the Chewonki Foundation (2001). "We are thrilled to be able to recognize companies like The Acadia Hospital that are modeling for other Maine companies ways to be economically successful while contributing environmentally and socially," stated MEBSR Executive Director Sanna McKim.
"The Eagle Feather Award symbolizes the positive impact organizations can have in shaping the communities in which they exist. Ultimately, our ability to achieve our mission of caring rests in the hands of our exceptional staff, and I want to thank them for helping to make Acadia worthy of such recognition," said Acadia Hospital CEO/CNO Dorothy Hill, RNC.
Maine Businesses for Social Responsibility, founded in 1993, is an association of businesses committed to creating a new business climate that recognizes that long-term, sustainable profitability is directly linked to acting in a socially responsible, ethical and compassionate manner. Members of Maine Businesses for Social Responsibility pledge to take steps to lessen the environmental impact of their business, treat their employees with increasing respect and fairness, and give back to the community.
