The Acadia Hospital received a wonderful surprise recently when a non-profit organization called Kid Flicks out of Los Angeles, California, offered to donate movies child and adolescent units. Kid Flicks, started by the Barta sisters (pictured above) in 2002, solicits and collects new and used DVDs to donate to Children's Hospitals and Pediatric Departments across the United States. To date, the teenage sisters have donated 29,900 movies to 299 hospitals in all 50 states and 5 hospitals in South Africa. Each hospital receives a "movie library" of 100 assorted films that appeal to toddlers through teenagers. According to Marni Barta, "In the last six years, hardly a week has gone by that we have not received movie donations from individuals, families, schools, churches, temples, businesses, clubs, and movie companies. We then take the donated movies and ship them to pediatric departments so their patients may enjoy them." For more information, check out www.kidflicks.org.
Acadia Hospital salutes and thanks these amazing young people for their vision and caring. The films are being put to good use and are much appreciated! |
