Reduction of Restraints Topic of Paper Published in Journal of Behavioral Health Services & Research
The Acadia Hospital was recently notified that a paper entitled, “Reducing Mechanical Restraints in Acute Psychiatric Care Settings Using Rapid Response Teams” will be featured in the Brief Report section of the Journal of Behavioral Health Services & Research.
“I think the paper has two important purposes. First, it helps recognize our staff’s innovation in developing ever-improving ways to provide high quality care. The paper focused on how we reduced one of the most risky procedures in behavioral health, restraining someone to prevent them from hurting themselves or someone else. The fact that we can improve upon an approach that has been around for many years speaks to the quality of the people who work here,” commented the main author of the paper, Acadia’s Administrator of Psychology Services David Prescott, PhD.
“The second key thing is Acadia’s goal of enhancing research in what has for years been primarily a clinical organization. It is a great step towards using our clinical strengths to gain recognition in the scientific community, and to help bridge the gap between research and practice.”
Other members of The Acadia Hospital team who contributed to the program’s success and authorship of the paper are: Marilyn Dennis, RNC, MS, CNA; Paul Tisher, MD; Carrie Wingate, PhD; Dan Johnson, LCPC; Marcia Bean, RNC; Wayne Steller, RN; Rick Redmond, LCSW; Eric Kuntz, MD; Bill Wypyski, LCSW; Dottie Hill, RNC; and Lynn Madden, MPA, CHE. |
