Children's Partial Program
The Acadia Hospital is dedicated to meeting the needs of the diverse populations we serve.
With children, programs that allow for the least restrictive therapeutic environment encourage them to use the skills they are taught in real life situations. The staff in the Children's Partial Programs are trained to help the children manage such situations.
The Children's Partial Program maintains a child's rights and dignity and promotes wellness with respect. The program is consistent with the goal of providing treatment in the least restrictive environment possible.
Treatment in the Children's Partial Program is goal directed, focused, and based on the individual needs of the children. Treatment may include process oriented groups, topic focused group therapy, individual counseling, expressive therapy groups, social skills building, classroom education, crisis intervention, discharge planning, occupational therapy, family counseling and medication management.
The Children's Partial Program offers dynamic and structured activities/groups for children ages 5 through 12. Our staff includes a Child Psychiatrist, Psychiatric Nurses, Psychiatric Technicians, Occupational Therapists, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants and Expressive Therapists.
Discharge planning and coordination begins upon admission, and every effort will be made to link the child and family with appropriate follow-up services.
The Children's Partial Hospitalization Program is a day treatment program focusing on assisting children through an acute crisis or acute exacerbation of psychiatric symptoms. Individual, group and family psychotherapy, classroom education, intensive medication management, cooperative play, goal books, positive practice, parent participation as well as role modeling are provided to assist the children and their families in the unique and individual issues they face.
Children's Partial offers a safe, therapeutic environment for children to explore conflict resolution, anger management and family relationships; learn coping skills and positive social skills that are reinforced for use in the community.
Program hours are 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday at the Acadia Hospital. Most children attend our on-site school program.
Referrals can be made by calling The Acadia Hospital Access Center at 973-6100 or 1-800-640-1211 (TDD: 973-6103). A trained Access Center Associate will take the call and guide the caller through a series of questions to assess the child's needs. This is a confidential process.

Adolescent Partial Program |

The Acadia Hospital and is dedicated to meeting the needs of the diverse populations we serve.
In the case of adolescents, programs that allow for the least restrictive therapeutic environment encourage them to use the skills they are taught in real world situations. This type of model fosters self-esteem and ultimately provides the teens with the tools they will need to cope when they are no longer in a partial program.
Adolescent Pathways
Adolescent Pathways is a partial hospitalization program at The Acadia Hospital offering dynamic and focused activities for adolescents ages 12 through 17. A psychiatrist, occupational therapist, psychologist, clinicians, psychiatric nurses and psychiatric technicians provide a team approach to effective client-centered care for kids seeking help.
Adolescent Pathways Participants Share Their Thoughts on the Program:
This group is our group. We learn from each other to cope with things in life such as problems of low self-esteem, family conflicts and to find the real us. We share ideas, feelings, and dreams. We help each other to get help for ourselves and others. In this group we have choices. We can have fun, be creative, and learn to be good to ourselves.
Adolescent Pathways provides a safe place to explore conflict resolution, anger management and life skills, and family relationships. Individualized and group therapy, along with educational opportunities and focus groups enable participants to achieve insight and gain experience in dealing with the pain and difficulty of adolescence.
Family involvement is crucial. This is accomplished through family therapy and daily contact between families and the Acadia staff. Pathways is also available for those who are at risk of needing inpatient/residential treatment if intensive outpatient treatment is not provided.
Hours are 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday at The Acadia Hospital. The average length of participation is four to eight weeks. Most participants attend our on-site school program from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. | |
