"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." - Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel)
Well I wanted to take a moment and send out this note say "Thank you" to all of the staff here at Acadia that will be spending time away from their families to offer help to those in need.
I recently heard a NPR story on musician Carlos Santana. In this interview he was asked if you were not a musician, what would you be doing? He hesitated and then replied, "I think I would be either a doctor or a waiter. Either way I know that I would be serving others".
I loved it! Because it made it clear to me that the MOST important thing is serving others. How one serves is less important then the decision to serve.
I hope you feel a special pride in knowing that you are serving others and contributing to them, your community and yourself. You also set an example for all that witness your efforts.
Sometimes, it is easy to loose sight that your contribution is appreciated. Many of those you are helping today are in such distress that they can't see your supportive efforts or be grateful for the aide you are providing. But believe me when I say that your good work today will be remembered over a life time in ways you may never know. That gratitude for your work is present even if it is hidden.
On behalf of the clients, the families, and the community, I want to say, "thank you", to each of you. On this holiday, I will be thankful for all of you.
In Service,
David S Proffitt
President The Acadia Hospital
