Bangor, ME – The Acadia Hospital was one of four area non-profit organizations to be awarded a grant from the Rotary Club of Bangor. Each organization had an opportunity to describe the program being supported by Rotary and receive their check at the Rotary Club’s weekly meeting.
Acadia Hospital received $2,000 to help fund a series of Challenge Days to be held at four Maine high schools in the fall of 2009. Hermon High School, Searsport District High School, Biddeford High School and Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham are all scheduled for one or more Challenge Days. The Rotary grant will help Acadia Hospital, who coordinates the Days, offset the cost of travel and lodging for the Challenge Day facilitators.
"Acadia is very pleased to receive financial support from the Rotary Club of Bangor," stated Acadia Hospital President and CEO David S. Proffitt, PhD. "We share Rotary’s passion for working with youth and the funding will go along way in helping us bring Challenge Day to over 300 Maine high school students next fall."
The hospital has been coordinating Challenge Days as part of its Community Conversations program in support of youth wellness and violence prevention for over ten years. Acadia and the participating schools are recognized by Challenge Day as the Pine Tree Circle of Change, one of the only Circles in New England.
Susan Jonason, President, Rotary Club of Bangor commented, "Our club is delighted to be supporting this important program for high school students. We are proud of Acadia Hospital for its ongoing commitment to Challenge Day and look forward to hearing about this year's success."
