Nationally recognized Tourette Syndrome (TS) experts to speak May 16, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Bangor, ME – Nationally recognized Tourette Syndrome (TS) experts Dr. Jonathan Mink and Judy Peterson will be at The Acadia Hospital, Penobscot Room, on May 16th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. to give a free presentation for the general public on the subject of Tourette Syndrome. They will speak respectively on current research into and treatment of TS, and educational and family issues affecting persons with TS.

Tourette syndrome is an inherited neurological disorder whose symptoms significantly affect the lives of approximately 3 to 10 people out of every thousand. Children with TS tend to begin exhibiting symptoms during the early elementary school years, and boys are affected more often than girls.

This Community Outreach Program represents a special opportunity for the Bangor community to learn more about TS and related disorders such as OCD and ADD/ADHD from nationally recognized experts on Tourette Syndrome.

A representative from the national office of the Tourette Syndrome Association will also be on hand to explain how the national TSA works locally with families of persons affected by TS to establish support groups and chapters which provide information, referrals, and support locally.
